Welcome to Zeeland Recreation!
Zeeland Recreation Concussion Policy
Michigan was the 39th U.S. state to enact a law that regulates sports concussions and return to athletic activity. The law goesinto full effect on June 30th, 2013. The sports concussion legislation requires:
Employees, Coaches, and Volunteers: All employees, coaches, volunteers, and other adults involved with a youth athletic activity must complete a concussion awareness on-line training program. The CDC “Heads Up” Concussion in Youth Sports training is available at: Youth Sports Training. After completing the course, print and return a copy to Zeeland Recreation. You may also email a copy to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Very Important! Training must be completed prior to the start of the program. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Participants and Parents: We must provide educational materials on the signs/symptoms and consequences of concussions to all participants under the age of 18 and their parents/guardians and obtain a signed statement acknowledging receipt of the information to keep on record. Download the Parent & Athlete Concussion Information Sheet below.
Written Clearance: The law also requires immediate removal of an athlete from physical participation in an athletic activity who is suspected of sustaining a concussion. The student athlete must then receive written clearance from an appropriate health professional before he or she can return to physical activity. Medical Clearance to Return to Play forms can be found here.
