LITTLE LEAGUE SOFTBALL (8-12 yr olds)

Our Zeeland Little League Baseball and Softball programs are designed to be the next step after 4 to 7-year-olds have completed
our Recreation Baseball and Softball programs. The goals of Zeeland Little League are to teach the skills and concepts of the game at a high level, while also emphasizing having fun and building character. Volunteer coaches are needed for this program, so please consider coaching when enrolling your child. In order to enroll in Zeeland Little League, your child must either go to a school within the Zeeland Public Schools boundaries, or you must live in Zeeland.

Registration Process:

Register based on age, not level. Your child’s level will be determined during the draft by volunteer coaches at our evenly
skilled team drafts. For guidance on the Little League® age of your child at the time of registration, google “2019 Little League Age Chart” (posted by Little League® in Dec or Jan). Scroll down for more details on the Little League structure.

  • 9-year-olds are eligible to be drafted by a AAA team. If they don’t get selected to a AAA team, they will be placed on a AA
team with all other 9 yr olds.
  • 10 and 11-year-olds are eligible to be drafted by a Majors team. If they don’t get selected to a Majors team, they will be placed on a AAA team with all other 10 and 11-year-olds.
  • All 12-year-olds get placed on a Majors team.
  • Middle School aged girls interested in softball should contact their local 7th-12th grade athletic department about middle
    school club softball opportunities.

Evenly Skill Team Selection Process

We make every effort to form evenly skilled teams to ensure all kids have a great experience. Additionally, after that team
selection process is completed, we mandate equal playing to ensure all kids develop skills and have fun. The official process we are using this coming spring to form those evenly skilled teams is TBD and will be determined at our Little League board meetings this fall/winter (it will be communicated after the Feb 2 registration deadline).

Team Tournaments:

Team tournaments are a postseason double elimination tournament for Majors, 50/70 and Juniors Little League teams that involves multiple local communities and typically lasts about one week. Regular season teams will compete against other local Little League teams (rather than playing against other Zeeland Little League teams). Tournaments begin after the regular season ends in mid-June, and schedules are finalized near the end of the regular season and communicated at that point.

All-Star Team Information:

After the completion of the Zeeland Little League regular season and team tournaments, an All-Star tournament takes place from end of June – mid-July. All-Star teams are selected by appointed All-Star head coaches in early June. All-Star teams are formed after an invitation-only try-out, which usually takes place in early June. Team selections are based on multiple factors (try-out performance, regular season performance, coach recommendations, team needs, etc.)

  • Cost (if selected): $75 (jersey, hat/visor, belt, socks)
