AQUATICS CERTIFICATION CLASSES

 

Lifeguarding Certification Class (15 yrs old + | 2017 April Session Canceled Due to Low Enrollment | 2017 Fall Dates TBD | Cityside Pools | $215 + $35 Red Cross Online Fee)

This American Red Cross Lifeguarding class is for the individual interested in becoming lifeguard certified for the first time. This course is a blending learning class, requiring participants to complete the American Red Cross online requirements, and then demonstrating your skills in person to a trained, certified instructor through Zeeland Rec. When you register, you will be sent instructions for accessing the online portion of the class. All online content must be completed prior to the onsite session.  Participants must be 15 years of age to participate. The detailed steps to follow are below.

  • Step 1: Register for the course through the Rec office or website prior to April 1, 2017
  • Step 2: Use the link we send you to register for the the course through the American Red Cross (prior to April 1, 2017)
  • Step 3: Complete the online requirements through the American Red Cross prior to April 15, 2017 (typically takes 9-12 hrs)
  • Step 4: Attend the Apr 15 & 22 classes at Cityside Pools from 8am-4pm
  • Step 5: Congrats! You’re now a certified lifeguard!
Fall registration opens August 15, 2017. 

 

Lifeguarding Recertification Class (2017 April Session Canceled Due to Low Enrollment | 2017 Fall Dates TBD | Cityside Pools | $115 + $35 Red Cross Online Fee)

Lifeguard Recertification is designed to help you update your skills while also extending your certification for another two years. Recertification class is for those whose certification is still valid (or within 30 days of expiring). This course is a blending learning class, requiring participants to complete the American Red Cross online requirements, and then demonstrating your skills in person to a trained, certified instructor through Zeeland Rec. When you register, you will be sent instructions for accessing the online portion of the class. All online content must be completed prior to the onsite session.  Participants must be 15 years of age to participate. The detailed steps to follow are below.

Water Safety Instructor Certification (April 22, 29, May 6, 13 | 8am – 11:30am | Cityside Pools | $200 + $35 Red Cross Online Fee)

During the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor class, you’ll get certified to and learn how to team swimming lessons and help adults and children enjoy their time in the water safely and in a wide range of ways. Earn you swimming and water safety instructor certification and gain the skills needed to teach lessons and make presentations to swimmers of every age and ability. Through this class, you can help recreational swimmers meet their goals, refine their skills and stay safe in, on and around the water. This course is a blended learning class. Created for those who want or need the freedom to learn at their own pace, blended learning classes allow you to take online classes and demonstrate your skills in person to a trained, certified instructor. Once you have successfully completed both portions of the course, you’ll receive your certification. An additional $35 American Red Cross online registration fee applies to all classes, payable with a credit card by the participant in order to access online material. Once registered, you will be contacted with directions for accessing the online portion of the class. Please note: All online content must be completed prior to the onsite session.
