FALL ROCKET FOOTBALL LEAGUE

3rd – 6th graders | August – October | $50, Zeeland Resident | $62, Non-Resident

Rocket Football Rule Book

2017 Rocket Football Game Schedule (3rd-6th Grades)

Rocket Football is a competitive, contact league that is run through the West Michigan Junior Football League. Zeeland teams compete against other area schools in the league. Level is determined by grade. Practices begin the week of August 14th at each coach’s discretion. Games are on Saturdays from September 9 – October 14, all over west Michigan. Evenly skilled teams are formed through a draft by all coaches after registration is closed. To help form evenly skilled teams, we hold an “Ability Testing/Conditioning Week” prior to the selection of teams on August 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10 (times listed below). All participants must attend three or more of the dates listed (unless prior approval by the Zeeland Recreation office is given). Helmets, mouth guards, shoulder pads, pants with pads, cup, and football cleats must be provided by parents. Equipment can be purchased at Superior Sport Store, Dicks Sporting Goods, Dunhams or Total Athlete (which will also sell/buy used equipment). For questions or recommendations on equipment, contact the Zeeland Recreation office. Registration is closed. 

 

What You Need to Know:

– August 10: Teams will be selected and coaches will begin to reach out to parents to communicate practice schedules
– Week of August 14: Practices Begin
– Scrimmage: Aug 26, 9am-12pm (Location TBD)

Ability Testing Details
To help form evenly skilled teams, we’re holding an “Ability Testing” on Aug 1-3 and Aug 7-10 (times and locations below). Participants must attend at least 3 dates to give all volunteer coaches a chance to review skill levels (attending all dates is preferred). Any non-ZPS elementary kids should choose between Chix or Dux based on the MS/HS they plan to attend.

  • 3rd/4th ZE Chix (students from Woodbridge, Adams, Lincoln): 6pm-7pm @ Woodbridge Elementary School
  • 3rd/4th ZW Dux (students from Roosevelt, New Groningen, Quincy): 6pm-7pm @ Quincy Elementary School
  • 5th/6th ZE Chix (students from Woodbridge, Adams, Lincoln): 7pm-8pm @ Woodbridge Elementary School
  • 5th/6th ZW Dux (students from Roosevelt, New Groningen, Quincy): 7pm-8pm @ Quincy Elementary School

 

SPRING/SUMMER PROGRAMS

 

ZEELAND EAST SUMMER FOOTBALL CAMP

3rd – 6th Graders | July 11-13 | 9am – 11am | ZE Practice Field | $45, Zeeland Resident | $57, Non-Resident

This camp is designed to teach our young football players the fundamentals of the game. This camp will be directed Zeeland East High School varsity coach Derek Pennington. Players will have the opportunity to be coached by other staff members and players. Campers will be instructed in proper football technique, rules of the game, and have an opportunity to participate in organized scrimmages. Please, no football helmets. Registration opens in February, 2018. 

 

ZEELAND WEST SUMMER FOOTBALL CAMP

3rd – 6th Graders | July 11-13 | 11:30am – 1:30pm | ZW Practice Field | $45, Zeeland Resident | $57, Non-Resident

This camp is designed to teach our young football players the fundamentals of the game. This camp will be directed Zeeland West High School varsity coach John Shillito. Players will have the opportunity to be coached by other staff members and players. Campers will be instructed in proper football technique, rules of the game, and have an opportunity to participate in organized scrimmages. Please, no football helmets. Registration opens in February, 2018.

 

FLAG FOOTBALL 

1st – 3rd Graders | Saturdays in August, 2018 | $30, Zeeland Resident | $42, Non-Resident

Come and learn the game of football in a non-contact football clinic/league. This program is designed to prepare and teach players the beginning skills used in Rocket Football. Each Saturday there will be a practice from 10am-11am, followed by a game from 11am-12pm. All practices and games take place at Drenthe Grove Park. For practices, Drenthe Grove green space will be broken up into eight (8) separate practice sections. Each team will require 1-2 parent coaches. Team shirts are included in registration. Football flags will be provided. Program size is limited to 100 participants. Registration will open in February, 2018.
