ADULT & CHILD CHRISTMAS COOKIE DECORATING CLASS (5-12 yr olds)

Get ready to have some cookie decorating fun as a family! This class is open to children ages 5-12 with an accompanying adult. It will be a great intro to cookie decorating. Each child registered will leave with a dozen fully decorated Christmas cookies. Class size is limited to 16 registered children.

APPLESAUCE (13 yr old – Adults) – CANCELED

Homemade applesauce is one of the most delicious treats you can make from scratch, and it doesn’t take much time at all! Each participant will make applesauce from a half bushel of apples. Participants are asked to bring a paring knife, a large knife, cutting board, and two large stock pots (6-10 quart size). All other supplies provided.

COOKIE DECORATING CLASS (12 yr olds – Adults) 

Join Pink Slip Cakery for some cookie decorating fun! A live demonstration of each skill will be performed and students will be able to test out their new skills! We will discuss the basics of sugar cookies, including baking tips, mixing icing, icing consistency, filling bags, piping, flooding and wet-on-wet techniques. Each participant will leave with a dozen fully decorated cookies. Class size is limited to 16.

INTRODUCTION TO THEATER (7-16 yr olds)

Discover what theater is all about while learning some basic skills needed to be successful on stage. This class is perfect for those who are curious about theater and want to have fun discovering more about it and also for those who want to improve their acting and understanding of theater. These classes will include theater games and exercises, scene work, as well as a lesson on theater history.

KIDS CAKE CAMP (8-13 yr olds)

In this fun, four-day camp, young bakers will explore the world of baking and create a delicious array of sweet treats. Pink Slip Cakery will introduce kids to different fundamentals each day. Class size is limited to 10.

  • Class 1: Cookies – bakers will learn how to decorate cookies using different icing mediums and techniques.

  • Class 3: Cupcakes – bakers will focus on mixing cake batter and frostings to make cupcakes.
  • Class 4: Cake – bakers will learn the basics of making icing, writing, simple borders and fondant flowers.

 

MOTOR MOVEMENT (3-5 yr olds)

This class that will focus on tumbling, physical awareness and large motor skills with music, games and other fun activities. All children must be potty trained. Program size is limited.

PARENT-CHILD SING SONG YOGA (2-6 yr olds + Parent)

Sing Song Yoga® is an international kids’ musical yoga program in which song lyrics instruct children how to get into the poses. Class includes yoga poses, yoga-based activities and songs to tie it all together. Parents and kids sign up for this yoga class together. It’s a fast paced, 30-minute, child-centered class best suited for the youngest yogis. Taught by the founder. Program size is limited.

PIE CRUSTS (13 yr olds – Adults)

Who doesn’t love a flaky pie crust? We’ll teach you how to use up some of those extra apples you always have around the house and everyone will take home a delicious pie made with their homemade crust. Participants are asked to bring one large mixing bowl, paring knife, rolling pin and a glass pie plate. All other supplies provided.

SUNFLOWER CAKE (12 yr olds – Adult)

Join Pink Slip Cakery as we create a beautiful buttercream sunflower cake! Learn how to level, fill and frost a cake, then pipe the buttercream flower on the top. Each participant will leave with a fully decorated sunflower cake! Class size is limited to 10 participants.

THE SCIENCE OF BAKING (12 yr olds – Adults)

Baking isn’t luck or a gift… it is chemistry. In this class, we will cover the essential components of baking (fats, sugars, eggs, flours and leavening agents), how ingredients interact with each other and why baking is a science. We will finish the class by bringing everything learned full circle to make a recipe of brownies! Class size is limited to 16.

VALENTINE BOUQUET CLASS (12 yr olds – Adults)

Create a beautiful cupcake bouquet for your Valentine! Learn the basics of American buttercream and the ins and outs of piping flowers onto cupcakes. We will focus on piping roses, along with other filler flowers. Each participant will leave with a fully assembled cupcake bouquet. Class size is limited to 16.

WOMEN’S SELF DEFENSE (13 yr olds – Adults)

Everyone will be happy to tell you what you should have done… after the fact. We will help you decide what you should do… before. This is a four night, six-hour class focusing on the mental and physical aspects of self-defense for women. As mature content will be discussed, participants must be 13 years or older. Each class includes 30 minutes per night on the psychological aspects of self-defense and one hour of physical training. Students will receive a workbook to guide them through this program.

ART EXPLORATION CAMP

Exploration fosters creativity. In this camp led by Jane Butler, ZPS Art Teacher, participants will explore a variety of art media and age appropriate techniques to create art together. Times are listed below. Class sizes are limited and enrollment is based on the grade for 2017-18 school year. Registration Opens in February, 2019.

Sing Song Yoga® is an international kids’ musical yoga program in which song lyrics instruct children how to get into the poses. Class includes yoga poses, yoga-based activities and songs to tie it all together. Parents and kids sign up for this yoga class together. It’s a fast paced, 30-minute, child-centered class best suited for the youngest yogis. Program size is limited. Registration opens in February, 2019.

Lisa has taken classes and earned certification across the country from world class decorators. Registration opens in February, 2019.

SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP

3rd-8th Graders | 2019 Dates TBD

During this one-week camp led by ZPS science teacher, Brad Stevens, campers will have the opportunity to experience an authentic, hands on experience. Students will be posed a driving question about a scientific phenomenon to conduct investigation and develop models to develop their own understanding. This process takes students through an authentic inquiry experience, and gives them the opportunity to act as actual scientists to construct their own understanding of the world around them. The opportunity gives students an experience that will help prepare them for middle and high school science courses. Participants will receive a camp t-shirt. Space is limited. Registration opens in February, 2019. 

 

WETLANDS ADVENTURES (PARENT/CHILD)

K-2nd Graders | 2019 Dates TBD

Led by Jennifer Soukhome, ZPS Science Teacher, participants will explore the wetland area by looking for living organisms in the water using nets. Fish, frogs and all different kinds of aquatic insects will be examined. Children will examine the terrestrial living world with insect traps and experiments while learning about the plants and animals that use the wetlands. A parent or caregiver must accompany their child. Please bring your own footwear appropriate for getting in the water, wear appropriate clothing for the weather and conditions, and bring your own water bottle if desired. Directions to the Zeeland East Wetlands Pavilion: Park in the Varsity baseball and softball fields parking lot off of 96th Ave just south of the corner of Riley St and 96th Ave. The Zeeland East Wetlands Pavillion is at the southwest corner of the soccer field nearest that parking lot. If inclement weather, please meet in D122 in Zeeland West HS. Registration opens in February, 2019.
