MOTOR MOVEMENT

This class focuses on tumbling, physical awareness and large motor skills with music, games and other fun activities. All children must be potty trained.

PARENT-CHILD SING SONG YOGA CLASS

2-6 yr olds | Thursdays 

Sing Song Yoga® is an international kids’ musical yoga program in which song lyrics instruct children how to get into the poses. Class includes yoga poses, yoga-based activities and songs to tie it all together. Parents and kids sign up for this yoga class together. It’s a fast paced, 30-minute, child-centered class best suited for the youngest yogis. Program size is limited. To register, click here or call (616) 748-3230.

PINK SLIP CAKERY: CAKE POP CLASS

Cake Pop success is guaranteed! Learn how to mix your dough, roll, dip and decorate adorable Halloween themed cake pops. Each participant will leave with 10-12 completed cake pops. PINK SLIP CAKERY: COOKIE DECORATING CLASS

Ages 12 yrs + | 6:30-8:30pm | @ Cityside MS, Room 135 | $30, Zeeland Resident | $42, Non-Resident

Get excited to learn new decorating skills! A live demonstration of each skill will be performed and students will be able to test out their new skills! We will discuss the basics of sugar cookies, including baking tips, mixing icing, icing consistency, filling bags, piping, flooding, and wet-on-wet techniques. Each participant will leave with a dozen fully decorated cookies. Class size is limited to 15. Pink Slip Cakery is a successful home-based baking business in Zeeland. Create a beautiful cupcake bouquet for your Thanksgiving event! Learn the basics of American buttercream and the ins and outs of piping flowers onto cupcakes. We will focus on piping roses, mums and other fall flowers… so strengthen up those hand muscles! Each participant will leave with a fully assembled cupcake bouquet. Class size is limited to 15. ART EXPLORATION CAMP

Exploration fosters creativity. In this camp, participants will explore a variety of art media and age appropriate techniques to create art together. Times are listed below. Class sizes are limited and enrollment is based on current grade for 2016-2017 school year. Registration opens in February, 2018.

PAINTBRUSHES & PIROUETTES

3rd-5th Gr | July, 2018 (Exact Dates TBD) | 9am–1pm | @ Cityside MS, Room 124 | $44, Zeeland Res | $56, Non-Resident

How is visual art inspired by dance? How is dance inspired by visual art? How can we use dance to create visual art? Explore the answers to these questions and more in this cross curricular course incorporating a variety of artistic mediums and dance disciplines. Students will explore the works of highly celebrated French Impressionist painter and sculptor, Edgar Degas, who enjoyed observing and capturing the beauty of ballet on canvas as well as with his sculptures. Students will leave with their own dance inspired and designed works of art and art inspired choreography. Artist should come able to be barefoot and be prepared to get messy. Registration opens in February, 2018. 

 

ROCK BAND CAMP

12-18 yr olds | June, 2018 (Exact Dates TBD) | 12:30-4pm | $100, Zeeland Resident | $112, Non-Resident
Participants aged 12-18 years old will receive direct, small group, and full class instruction from ZPS employees, Jeff and Michael Costello, who have extensive performing experience in rock bands. Students will form a band and learn performance techniques as well as instruction pertaining to the music business and the operation of sound and lighting equipment (students who are only interested in sound and lighting are encouraged to attend). The camp will take place at Cityside Middle School’s band and choir rooms. Attendees will also participate in a final performance on the last evening of the camp at Lawrence Street Park Bowl on June 15th at 7pm. Additional instructors include Cityside Middle School teacher, John Hann, and Creekside Middle School custodian, Doug Veldhuis. Participants should be moderately proficient at their instrument (guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, drums, vocals). Drummers should be able to keep a simple beat. Keyboardists/guitarists should know how to play chords. Participants are encouraged to bring their own guitar and keyboard equipment, but drums will be provided. Registration opens in February, 2018.

Join us for summer fun at our “Summer Fun Camp”! Each day campers will participate in activities and games outlined by our theme of the day! Campers are asked to wear tennis shoes and to bring a snack and personal water bottle. Space is limited. Registration opens in February, 2018. 

 

SUMMER SCIENCE CAMP

3rd-8th Graders | July, 2018 (Exact Dates TBD) | Zeeland West HS, Room E131 | $50, Zeeland Resident | $62, Non-Resident

During this one-week camp led by ZPS science teacher, Brad Stevens, campers will have the opportunity to experience an authentic, hands on experience. Students will be posed a driving question about a scientific phenomenon to conduct investigation and develop models to develop their own understanding. This process takes students through an authentic inquiry experience, and gives them the opportunity to act as actual scientist to construct their own understanding of the world around them. The opportunity gives students an experience that will help prepare them for middle and high school science courses. Participants will receive a camp t-shirt. Space is limited. Registration opens in February, 2018. 

  • 3rd-4th graders from 8am-9:30am
  • 5th-6th graders from 10am-11:30am
  • 7th-8th graders from 12:30pm-2:00pm

 

WETLANDS: AQUATIC ADVENTURES IN THE WETLANDS – WHAT’S IN THE WATER? 

K-5th Graders | June, 2018 (Exact Dates TBD)

This programs is led by Jennifer Soukhome, Zeeland Public Schools science teacher. Children will explore what is living in the water at the Zeeland High School wetland area. Participants will obtain the unique organisms living in the water by using aquatic nets and minnow traps. Children will learn and discover all about the wonderful things hiding in the water at the wetland area through their own observations. Children in grades K-2 must be accompanied by a guardian. Participants should meet at the Zeeland East Wetlands Pavilion located just south of Riley Street and Zeeland Athletic Complex on 96th Ave. Please use the drive next to Waypoint Community Church. Session times are listed below. Registration opens in February, 2018.

WETLANDS: PLANTS IN THE WETLANDS

Children will learn and discover all about the water at the wetland area through their own observations. Children will also run a simple experiment and lean about the effects of erosion on the water. Children in grades K-2 must be accompanied by a guardian.
