SPRING/SUMMER PROGRAMS

 

ZEELAND AGE GROUP SWIMMERS (ZAGS) – SUMMER SEASON

2018 ZAGS Summer Informational Packet

6-18 yr olds | May 30 – July | $100, Zeeland Resident | $112, Non-Resident

ZAGS is designed as an introduction to the sport of competitive swimming and is a stepping stone program to our USA team West Michigan Swimmers (WMS). ZAGS is for swimmers that are newer to competitive swimming. Practices are on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:30am – 11:00am. Practice will focus on kicking, stroke technique, starts, turns, drills, and learning to swim all four competitive strokes. Participants will gain confidence while learning the basics of competitive swimming in a fun, safe environment. ZAGS is a preparatory program and should not be considered the end of an athlete’s development in the sport of swimming. There will be 3-4 dual meets, an invitational meet, and a championship meet. Swimmers must compete in at least one dual or invitational meet to be eligible to swim in the A or B championship meet. SPLASHBALL YOUTH WATER POLO (CO-ED)

1st – 5th Graders | June 11-14 | 3pm – 4:30pm | @ Zeeland Recreation Pools | $50, Zeeland Resident | $62 Non-Resident | Instructors: Zeeland Varsity Boys & Girls Water Polo Coaches

“Splashball” is an introductory water polo program for boys and girls in grades 1-5. In a learn-to-play environment, similar to swim lessons, participants discover the game of water polo and the basic skills involved in aquatic sports. Splashball also helps enhance the participant’s swimming, balance and coordination skill-sets. No prior water polo experience is required! SWIM SCHOOL

Saturdays | Apr 14 – May 26 (skip May 12) | @ Zeeland Recreation Pools

For kids 6-14 yr olds who are interested in learning about competitive swimming and developing their skills in a non-competitive environment. Emphasis will be placed on becoming more proficient with the four competitive strokes, learning how to properly execute shallow dives, proper starts and turns, as well as becoming familiar with swim practice routines. Participants must have at least level 4 or equivalent ability (see our Swim Lesson Guidelines) and be able to swim for five minutes continuously. WATER POLO CAMP (CO-ED)

9th – 12th Graders | Tue & Thur | June 12 – July 19 (skip July 4th week) | 5:30-7:30pm | @ Zeeland West Natatorium | $120, Zeeland Resident | $132, Non-Resident) | Instructor: Zac Geschwendt, Zeeland Varsity Water Polo Head Coach

This is a co-ed teaching camp that is designed for intermediate and advanced players entering 9th-12th grade. This camp will cover all facets of the game. Our goal is to improve skills, teach techniques and advance players’ understanding of the game concepts. Camp will focus on all aspects of the game including 2M offense and defense, shooting, goalie training and live game situations. The camp is designed to provide each player with a competitive environment to further develop their understanding of the game. Participants must be water-safe in an all-deep pool. ZEELAND SWIMMING & DIVING ACADEMY

K – 6th Graders | Aug 8 – 9 | 10am – 2pm | $50 (Zeeland Resident) | $62 (Non-Resident) | @ Zeeland Natatorium | Instructor: Marc VanSoest, Zeeland Varsity Swim Head Coach

This fun and informational workshop will help competitive swimmers improve their swimming technique and racing abilities.  Each day will include large and small group instruction in all facets of successful swimming (stroke, drills, starts, turns, etc.), competitive games and races, as well as a chance to interact with swimmers from every Zeeland swimming program.  All whole group instruction will be led by Zeeland Varsity Swim Coach Marc Van Soest, and all small group instruction will be completed by the Zeeland Women’s Varsity Swim Team. ZAGS OFF-SEASON

Saturdays | Apr 14 – May 26 (skip May 12) | 8 – 9am | @ Zeeland Recreation Pools | $42, Zeeland Resident | $54 Non-Resident |

Designed for competitive swimmers who want to refine and develop their strokes, starts, and turns during the competitive swimming off-season, as well as build endurance. Participants must have at least one season of competitive swimming experience, must be legal in three of four strokes, and must be able to swim 25 yards of freestyle, backstroke, and either breaststroke or butterfly. To register, click here or call at (616) 748-3230.

ZEELAND AGE GROUP SWIMMING (ZAGS) – WINTER SEASON

Zeeland Age Group Swimming (ZAGS) is a Zeeland Recreation program that designed to be an introduction to the sport of competitive swimming. ZAGS is for swimmers ages 6-18 yrs old that are newer to competitive swimming. Practices will focus on kicking, stroke technique, starts, turns, drills, aerobic endurance, and learning to swim all four competitive strokes. Participants will gain confidence while learning the basics of competitive swimming in a fun, safe environment while competing against age group teams from the West Michigan area. ZAGS is a preparatory program and should not be considered the end of an athlete’s development in the sport of swimming. Practices are typically four times a week, and participants have the opportunity to swim approximately 4-6 swim meets. The season will last about 9 weeks this summer. For those that aren’t new to ZAGS, the program is a great way to continue to work on good technique and aerobic endurance. Registration will open in August, 2018.
