DIFFERENCE BETWEEN “LITTLE LEAGUE” AND “RECREATION” BASEBALL
We often get asked whether you should sign up your child for “recreation” or “Little League” baseball. The biggest area that causes parents confusion is the fact that 7-9 years olds can choose to either do recreation baseball, or little league baseball. To help with your decision, below is a brief breakdown of the difference between Little League baseball and Recreation baseball:
- Little League Baseball
- Ages: 7-14 yr olds
- Price: $65-$75 (depending on age level)
- Dates: early April – late June (with July as an additional possibility for those that make the Little League all-star team)
- Practices/Games: There are multiple practices and games per week, including Saturdays
- Experience: Little League is a good fit for kids who have at least some previous experience
- Recreation Baseball
- Ages: K-4th Graders
- Price: $30
- Dates: early May – late June
- Practices/Games: There is one game per week and 1-2 practices per week
- Experience: Recreation baseball is a good fit for those with limited baseball experience. It is a great introduction to the game of baseball with less of a time commitment
Co-Ed Toddler Tee Ball (4-5 year olds | June 5-29 OR August 1-31 | $25)
This is a co-ed league for 4-5 year olds and a parent(s)/guardian(s), with two separate sessions options (one in June, one in August). Each team has one game per week at either 6pm or 7pm at Adams Elementary Fields between Monday and Thursday. The goal of this program is to have the parent(s) guide their children through the basics of baseball/softball, which means parents will be in the field and at bat with their child shadowing every step of the way. In order to enroll, a parent(s)/guardian(s) must be able to attend games with their child, as well as any practices that the parents of each team want to set up through the field availability that is offered (practices are not required, but dates and times are available if parents of each team are interested). Registration includes a t-shirt. Registration opens February 14, 2017. To register, click here or call (616) 748-3230.
