DEEP H20 (M, W, F from 9am-10am @ Zeeland Recreation pools | Instructor: Heidi Berens)
For maximum water resistance, try Deep H2O! Deep water exercise provides a non-impact environment that uses the water’s resistance to deliver an excellent training effect for all fitness levels. Participants do not touch the pool bottom throughout the workout, which provides unrestricted, full range-of-motion movements for participants. To register, click here or call (616) 748-3230. $4 drop-in fees and “Punch Cards” also able to be used to participate. 

 

H20 ENERGY (M, W, TH from 7pm-8pm @ Zeeland Recreation pools | Instructor:  Paula Shivers)
H2O Energy is designed for all fitness levels, this class provides a “work-at-your-own pace” environment. H2O Energy uses both shallow and deep areas of the pool as well as a variety of equipment to help increase cardiovascular endurance, strength, muscle tone, balance, mobility and flexibility. To register, click here or call (616) 748-3230. $4 drop-in fees and “Punch Cards” also able to be used to participate. 

 

LAP SWIMMING / WATER WALKING (Often @ 5:30am, 12:00pm and 5:30pm daily, but check “Aquatics Calendar” to confirm)
Participants are welcome for lap swimming or water walking at our 6-lane, 25 yard cold pool. Barbells, fins, kickboards, noodles, pull buoys and exercise belts are available to enhance your water workout. Participants must be at least 13 years old. Please click on the “Adult Aquatics Fitness Calendar” link toward the top of this page to view available times and days (labeled “Water Fitness” on the calendar). Fitness Center members have access to this option at any time. Non-Fitness Center members can pay a $4 drop-in fee or use their “Punch Card” to participate. No pre-registration needed. Just show up!

 

MIDDAY MOVERS H20 (M, W, F from 11am-12pm @ Zeeland Recreation Pools | Instructor: Heidi Berens)
Midday Movers H2O is a water exercise class designed to strengthen and tone muscles and give participants a moderate cardiovascular workout. It doesn’t matter what age or ability you are, this class will enhance and improve your overall health. SUNRISE STRETCH & STRIDE H20 (M, W, F from 7am-8am @ Zeeland Recreation Pools | Instructor: Heidi Berens)
This class is for the early riser! Regardless of age or ability, Sunrise Stretch and Stride H2O is a low-impact water exercise class that will enhance and improve your overall health. Functional ability will increase with improved muscle strength, flexibility, coordination and balance. This is also a great class to meet new friends. Sunrise Stretch and Stride is ideal for older adults that want to exercise at a slower pace, and for individuals with health conditions or physical limitations. ADULT LAND FITNESS CLASSES

 

BEGINNER RUNNING CLUB: TRAIN FOR A 5K! (Sat @ 10:30am | Meet @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Julie Lamer)

*February – April, 2018

Running is a great way to get fit and feel better! Are you ready? Let’s go! In this nine-week training program, you will be training three times per week; twice at home, and once as a group with Julie Lamer, certified group fitness trainer with over 25 years of running experience. This program will focus on gradually increasing the time and distance you run. The training session will conclude with the group running together in the “Hearts in Motion 5K” on April 20th, 2017! Group training sessions will vary in length; at home sessions should take 20-30 minutes. BOOT CAMP (Mon @ 5:30pm-6:30pm | Meet @ Zeeland Football Stadium | Instructor: Amy Wyrick)

Boot camp is a tough, outdoor boot camp-style workout, adaptable for any fitness level. A challenge for any high school student, and great for mom and dad too! BOOTY BUSTIN’ BARRE (M @ 7:30-8:30pm | W @ 7:15-8:15pm | Instructor: Cydney Sheneman)

*June 19 – August 7

A complete body workout! Tone your muscles through hip hop, ballet, and various other dance techniques and movements. Class will target each of your muscle groups to the point of exhaustion and then stretch those muscles to promote long, lean growth instead of bulk. To register, click here or call (616) 748-3230. $4 drop-in fees and “Punch Cards” also able to be used to participate. 

 

NEW! CARDIO KICKBOXING (WED @ 4:10pm-4:55pm @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Jaci Lowther)

*Starting September 6, 2017

This is a combo class involving standing kickboxing techniques such as kicks and punches and bag work. This fast-paced class includes both upper and lower body movements that will rev up your heart rate and tackle those trouble zones! $4 drop-in fees and “Punch Cards” also able to be used to participate. 

 

CLASSICAL YOGA, LEVEL 1 (THUR @ 6:30pm-7:30pm @ Cityside MS Orchestra Room | Instructor: Deb Weiss-Gelmi)

*September 21 – end of May

This beginner classical yoga class focuses on alignment in basic standing, sitting, twisting and forward bending poses, which are introduced with progressive instructions to help you develop your strength, stamina, balance, posture and flexibility. This class is for those new to yoga or new to this method of yoga. No experience necessary. CLASSICAL YOGA, LEVEL 2 (THUR @ 7:45pm-9:00pm @ Cityside MS Orchestra Room | Instructor: Deb Weiss-Gelmi)

*September 21 – end of May

This Classical yoga class is for the more experienced yoga students. Emphasis will be on increasing endurance and refining individual corrections. A wider variety of poses are studied more deeply and more complicated poses are introduced. Inversions are practiced regularly, as are backbends. Most students are encouraged to work with Deb in the beginner class, Classical Yoga Level 1, before joining Level 2. CORE-CARDIO-CONDITIONING (T & TH @ 5pm-6pm @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Amy Wyrick)

NEW! CORE, STRENGTH & STRETCH (TUE @ 4:10pm-4:55pm @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Jaci Lowther)

This combination class with elements of cardio and strength training is a total body condition experience. Also, don’t forget the core work and stretching that will be included using your own bodyweight for resistance! This is a class designed for all levels as high and low impact options are provided. NEW! MEDITATION & MINDFULNESS (SAT @ 8:30-9:45am @ Cityside MS Orchestra Room | Instructor: Tina VanderKlok)

*Starting September 23, 2017

This combination of gentle stretching followed by mindfulness practices (using imagery, sound, breath and concentrated focus) allows the body to release stress, tightness, tension and anxiety. These practices increase clarity, circulation, energy and encourage personal growth. This is a powerful mat/barre Pilates and basic yoga class appropriate for all fitness levels. SENIOR STRONG & BALANCED (WED from 9am-10am @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Julie Lamer)

This fitness class is designed to build bone strength and enhance muscular strength and muscular endurance which is the ability to repeat a movement over and over. Start getting stronger and balanced today! The areas involved with strength and balance include:

  • Fitness: Learn just how fit and healthy you can be.
  • Balance: Improve your ability to get up, stand tall and strong and go about your day.
  • Strength: Build strong, powerful muscles and bones.
  • Flexibility: End that tight feeling.
  • Endurance: Improve your ability to move.

As you ride, motivating music plays as you are talked through a visualization of an outdoor cycling workout. It burns serious calories and offers an awesome aerobic workout. TAP DANCE (Wed | 7:15pm-8pm @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Cydney Sheneman)

Adult Tap Dance is designed for adults interested in exploring the dance genre of tap, all while getting a great workout! Tap shoes are required. High heel shoes not recommended. Program size is limited. Registration opens in August, 2017. 

 

TOTAL BODY BOOT CAMP (T & TH @ 9:00am-10:00am @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Deb DeVries)

A full body workout consisting of a combination of cardio and strength training. This class will elevate your heart rate, tone your muscles and boost your fat burning potential. ULTIMATE WORKOUT (temporarily suspended)

Join us for the ultimate workout experience for the intermediate to advanced level participant! This class will incorporate cardiovascular, strength and core training in an ever-changing format. WOMEN’S SELF DEFENSE (Mon from 6:00pm-7:30pm @ New Heights Fitness)

Everyone will be happy to tell you what you should have done… after the fact. We will help you decide what you should do… before it happen! This is a four night, six hour class focusing on on the mental and physical aspects of self-defense for women. Participants must be 13 years old or older. Each class includes 30 minutes of psychological training, and one hour of physical training. Program size is limited. $75 per session. To register, click here or call (616) 748-3230.

YOGA-PILATES FUSION (MON from 6:45pm-7:30pm @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Suzette Staal)

The yoga and Pilates combination allows people to gain the benefits of a yoga class and add core-strengthening moves that will slim their bodies. The philosophies of both make fusing the two very natural. The mind is very focused on the body and on breathing techniques. Participants will feel their entire body was exercised in an integrated way.  This class runs on Monday from 6:45-7:30pm. ZUMBA (TUE from 7:30-8:30pm | WED from 6:40-7:30pm | Sat from 8am-9am | Instructor: Grace Spelde)

Zumba is a high energy and fun fitness workout using Latin inspired music and dance movement. This aerobic workout will tone and sculpt your entire body. Come join the party! Our wide variety of adult aquatics classes are available a la carte to anyone 18 years of age and older. Community members have the following purchasing options:

 

Punch Cards ($30):

Punch cards are good for 10 workouts or classes of your choice, without an expiration date or timeline of when you can use those punches. Punch cards can be used for working out in our cardio & fitness room, participating in water fitness (lap swimming/water walking), or participating in a regularly scheduled adult fitness class.

 

Daily Visit Pass ($4):

Daily visits are valid only on the date of purchase and allows access to working out in our cardio & fitness room, participating in water fitness (lap swimming/water walking), or participating in a regularly scheduled adult fitness or adult aquatic class.
