BEGINNING RUNNING CLUB: TRAIN FOR A 5K! 

Saturdays | 10:30am | Meet @ Zeeland Recreation | $48 (Zeeland Resident) | $60 (Non-Resident) | Instructor: Julie Lamer 

Running is a great way to get fit and feel better! Are you ready? Let’s go! In this nine-week training program, you will be training three times per week (twice at home, once as a group). All training runs are with with Julie Lamer, certified group fitness trainer with over 25 years of running experience. This program will focus on gradually increasing the time and distance you run, without overemphasizing your speed. The training session will conclude with the group running together in a 5k race (details below). Group training sessions will vary in length, while home sessions should take 20-30 minutes. Program fee includes training sessions, a 10-visit adult fitness punch card, and the race registration fee. To register, click here or call (616)748-3230.

CARDIO KICKBOXING

Wed | 4:10 – 5:10pm | @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Jaci Lowther

This is a combo class involving standing kickboxing techniques such as kicks, punches and bag work. This fast-paced class includes both upper and lower body movements that will rev up your heart rate and tackle those trouble zones! Light boxing gloves are encouraged but not required. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities).

 

CARDIO SCULPT

Tue & Thur | 5:20 – 6:20pm | @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Jen Westendorf

A multi-level class for those who want to develop muscle strength and endurance all in one!  Working all major muscle groups, we’ll use a variety of props as well as our own body weight to give you a fun and energetic workout.  We’ll combine the perfect amount of cardio with just the right strength training to accommodate all fitness levels. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities). 

 

CARDIO, STRENGTH & STRETCH

Tue | 4:10 – 5:10pm | @ Zeeland Recreation | Instructor: Jaci Lowther

This combination class with elements of cardio and strength training is a total body condition experience. And let’s not forget the core work and stretching that will be included using your own bodyweight for resistance! This is a class designed for all levels as high and low impact options are provided. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities). 

 

CHAIR YOGA

Chair Yoga is one of the gentlest forms of yoga available. Participants will perform postures and breathing exercises with the aid of a chair. Participants can experience the many benefits of yoga without having to get up or down from the floor. Benefits include increased balance, strength, flexibility, range of motion, and stress reduction. Complicated maneuvers and complex movements are not present in this class. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities). 

 

CLASSICAL YOGA, LEVEL 1

This beginner classical yoga class focuses on alignment in basic standing, sitting, twisting and forward bending poses, which are introduced with progressive instructions to help you develop your strength, stamina, balance, posture and flexibility. This class is for those new to yoga or new to this method of yoga. No experience necessary. If you’re not sure between Level 1 and Level 2, try this class first and the instructor can help you find which class best suits you at this time. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities).

 

CLASSICAL YOGA, LEVEL 2

Classical Yoga, Level 2 is for the more experienced yoga students. Emphasis will be on increasing endurance and refining individual corrections. A wider variety of poses are studied more deeply and more complicated poses are introduced. Inversions are practiced regularly, as are backbends. Most students are encouraged to work with Deb in the beginner class (Level 1) before joining Level 2. Deb will help you find which class best suits you from there. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities).

 

EXERCISE & AGING SERIES

These FREE educational seminars are focused on exploring the important and powerful relationship between aging and exercise. Seminar topics span from exercise guidelines for generally healthy older adults to those who struggle
with various conditions or concerns. We will review basic changes in the body with aging as well as with various conditions, how appropriate exercise can significantly benefit your mobility and quality of life regardless of health status, and where to get further guidance if you need it. MOVEMENT + MINDFULNESS

This combination of gentle stretching followed by mindfulness practices (using imagery, sound, breath and concentrated focus) allows the body to release stress, tightness, tension and anxiety. These practices increase clarity, circulation, energy and encourage personal growth. Participants will leave feeling calm, present and enjoy a stronger sense of self. Ages 13-18 may attend if accompanied by an adult. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities).

 

POWER PILATES & YOGA

This is a powerful mat/barre Pilates and basic yoga class appropriate for all fitness levels. This non-impact class is designed to strengthen the core and improve posture and balance while also building strength and flexibility to streamline your physique. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities).

 

SENIOR STRONG & BALANCED

This fitness class is designed to build bone strength and enhance muscular strength and endurance (which is the ability to repeat a movement over and over). SPIN

As you ride, motivating music plays as you are talked through a visualization of an outdoor cycling workout. It burns serious calories and offers an awesome aerobic workout. All fitness levels welcome. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities).

 

TOTAL BODY BOOT CAMP – AM

TOTAL BODY BOOT CAMP (OUTDOORS) – PM

We’re taking Total Body Boot Camp OUTSIDE on Wednesday nights during the summer! Participants will experience a full body workout consisting of a combination of cardio and strength training. TRIPLE THREAT

Get ready to sweat it out while taking on a new challenge each week as you combine cardio, core & strength all in one during this intermediate to advanced high intensity conditioning class. WOMEN’S SELF DEFENSE

13 yrs – Adults | Mondays | 6 – 7:30pm | @ New Heights Fitness | $75, Zeeland Resident | $87, Non-Resident
Everyone will be happy to tell you what you should have done…after the fact. We will help you decide what you should do…before. This is a four night, six hour class focusing on the mental and physical aspects of self-defense for women. As mature content will be discussed, participants must be 13 years or older. Each class includes 30 minutes per night on the psychological aspects of self-defense and one hour of physical training. YOGA-PILATES FUSION

The yoga and Pilates combination allows people to gain the benefits of a yoga class and add core-strengthening moves that will slim their bodies. The philosophies of both make fusing the two very natural. The mind is very focused on the body and on breathing techniques. Participants will feel their entire body was exercised in an integrated way. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities).

 

ZUMBA

DEEP H20

M, W, F | 9 – 10am | @ Zeeland Recreation Pools | Instructor: Heidi Berens
Deep water exercise uses the water’s resistance to deliver an excellent training effect for all fitness levels. A buoyancy belt is provided to create and maintain proper balance and posture. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities).

 

ENERGY H20

Energy H20 is designed for all fitness levels, this class provides a “work-at-your-own pace” environment. HYDRO CARDIO

LAP SWIMMING / WATER FITNESS

The Zeeland Recreation pools are available for your use for lap swimming and deep and shallow water walking. Barbells, fins, kickboards, noodles, pull buoys and exercise belts are available to enhance your water workout. Fitness Center members have access to this option for no extra cost anytime it is on our aquatics calendars. Non-Fitness Center members can pay a $4 drop-in fee OR use a $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches). No registration needed… just show up!

  • Lap swimming is available for those 13 yrs and older during any of our scheduled lap swimming times
  • 8-12 yr old competitive swimmers are allowed to swim in designated open lap lanes during non-peak hours (after 6:30pm M-F and after 9am on Sat). Parents of 8-12 yr olds must be on deck or in the water supervising their child.
  • Split lane swimming is appropriate when there are two swimmers in a lane
  • Swim counter-clockwise (or “circle swim”) when there are three or more swimmers in a lane
  • All lanes are shared lanes and the lifeguard staff will regulate lane usage during busy times

 

MIDDAY MOVERS

M, W, F | 11am – 12pm | @ Zeeland Recreation Pools | Instructor: Heidi Berens

This is a water exercise class designed to strengthen and tone muscles and give participants a moderate cardiovascular workout. Great music, good friends, and lots of enthusiasm is what you will find what you participate in this exercise class! $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities).

 

PARENT AND TOT : PADDLE AND PLAY

Fridays | 9:45 – 11am | @ Zeeland Recreation Pools | $2 p/person OR $70 six month pass 
A special time in the pool for parents and youngsters to enjoy swimming and play time with friends! Open to children 5 yrs and under when accompanied by a parent. Parents must be in the water and provide supervision for their child. No registration needed… just show up!

PRIVATE ADULT SWIM LESSONS 
Adults will enjoy personalized swim lessons in a private setting. Lessons are sold in bundles of three 30-minute lessons. SUNRISE STRETCH & STRIDE

This class is for the early riser! This class is designed to strengthen and tone muscles as well as increase flexibility, coordination and balance to carry out daily tasks more efficiently. This is also a great class for those who experience pain associated with arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus or other joint and muscle conditions. $4 per class OR $30 “Punch Card” (10 punches to use for any activities).

 

FITNESS CLASS PAYMENT OPTIONS

Our wide variety of adult aquatics classes are available a la carte to anyone 18 years of age and older. Community members have the following purchasing options:

  • Drop-In ($4): Drop-ins allows access to participating in an adult fitness class, adult aquatics class, working out in our cardio & fitness room, or swimming laps/water walking. No registration is necessary. Just show up and pay $4 with cash, card or a check!
  • Punch Cards ($30): Punch cards are good for 10 workouts or classes of your choice, without an expiration date. Punch cards can be used to participate in an adult fitness class, adult aquatic class, working out in our cardio & fitness room on your own, lap swimming, or water fitness (walking, swimming, etc.)
  • Enroll for an Entire Session: Reserve your spot and pay only $3 per class upfront. To enroll, stop in our office or call (616) 748-3230.
